- Beijing Applies to Implement National Standard V Ahead of Schedule
- Beijing has applied to implement the National Emission Standard V for motor vehicles early, said Du Shaozhong, deputy director of Beijing’s environmental protection bureau, at the “China Car Industry Development International Forum (2010)” yesterday. It is said that every new National Emission Standard increase results in a 30% to 50% decrease of pollutants emitted by a single car.

- 1 in 5 Chinese Cities Have Severe Air Pollution
- Due to carbon-emissions caused by motor vehicles, around one fifth of Chinese cities are suffering from severe air pollution. The air quality in over one third of 113 key cities is below the second-tier of China’s national standards, according to Liu Zhiquan, deputy director of the science and technology standard department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
