Shenzhen Subway to Suffer 22 Billion Yuan Worth of Losses in Five Years

Shenzhen subway is predicted to suffer a loss of 22 billion yuan from 2012 to 2016, according to Huang Rui, board chairman of the Shenzhen Subway Group. This huge loss is attributed to its low ticket price of 2.8 yuan per person while the actual cost per rider is 5.9 yuan. Despite this loss, the China still plans to invest 1.1568 trillion yuan in constructing subway systems in dozens of cities.
