China Outbound Tourism Mainly Confined in Asia
CNTA releases yearly statistics on the performance of nationwide tour agencies, as a form of assessing the growth of tourism market. In 2006, there are 18,475 approved tour agencies in China.

The above statistics of outbound tourists only included those under organized tours. In contrast, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Public Security's Exit-Entry Bureau, 2006 saw a total of 34.5 millions Chinese go abroad. The top ten most visited destinations by Chinese were Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, Thailand, Korea, Russia, the United States, Singapore, Vietnam, and Malaysia. This figure includes group tours, business and conference trips, academic visits, and individual leisure trips.
