The State Council has set aside 26.5 billion yuan as subsidies for manufactures of eco-friendly air conditioners, televisions, refrigerators and washing machines, China Securities Journal reported Thursday, without giving details of how the subsides would applied.

An additional 2.2 billion yuan will be used to promote energy-saving lamps and LED lights, and 6 billion yuan will go to fuel-efficient cars.

The paper quoted one analyst from a Chinese brokerage saying that the home appliance industry is currently in a downturn and the subsidies will help provide support.

The market for energy-saving home appliances will be worth almost 300 billion yuan, the paper reported.
