    85% of China's Overseas Investment Goes to Asia and Latin America

    On Sep 6, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE ) jointly issued data on China's overseas investments in 2010.  China invested $68.81 billion in 2010, a 22% increase on the previous year, taking the total amount of accumulated outward direct investment to $317.21 billion by end of 2010. This places China 17th in a list ranking of how much countries around the world have invested abroad.

    According to the report, China's investments abroad have grown by an average of 50% a year over the past 9 years.

    China's investments are concentrated in Asia ($228.14 billion) and Latin America ($43.88 billion) which accounted for 85.7% of the country's total overseas investment at the end of 2010.

    China had 16,000 enterprises investing in 178 countries around the world by end of 2010.
