House prices in China's ten major cities fell 0.4% in August to an average of 15,773 yuan per square meter, respresenting their first month-on-month fall for eleven months, China Index Research Institution said Wednesday.

Three of the major cities surveyed - Guangzhou, Wuhan and Beijing - saw prices rise by up to 0.6% from July, partly mitigating the falls in Tianjin, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing and Chongqing, with that last city experiencing a 1.1% decline.

China Index Research Institution also released house price data for 100 of the country's biggest cities showing an average price per square meter of 8,880 yuan.
