The municipal government in the coastal city of Xiamen, in China's Eastern Fujian province, began releasing frozen pork that had been stored by the government in official pork reserves into the market this week. The city government began selling the meat on Aug 15 and will keep releasing more meat on to the market until at least the end of October. The pork from the reserves is being sold at 15% below the current retail price, according to Fu Rurong, deputy director of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce. In an announcement on Aug 12, Xiamen's Bureau of Commmerce said that each resident would be limited to purchasing a maximum of 5kg of the reserve pork from 5 designated retailers. When purchasing more than 2kg of the reserve pork, customers will be required to present their ID card.
