Guangzhou Blames Zengcheng Riots On Neglect of Migrants, Fires Local Officials

Guangzhou's security committe on Thursday fired senior officials in Zengcheng, a month after guards sparked off a riot in the city by manhandling a pregnant woman.

The head of Xintang Town and the village head of Dadun as well as the guards directly involved in the riot were blamed for the Jun 11 demonstrations.

Guangzhou Municipal Committee for Comprehensive Control of Public Order also pointed out the reasons behind the riot, including insufficient care from grass root governments for migrant workers and said it would strengthen efforts to safeguard the legal rights and interests of migrant workers and ensure social stability and harmony.
