NDRC Gives Nod to Unilever Price Increases

    管理員

An official from the National Development and Reform Commission told journalists yesterday that Unilever's decision to increase in the price of the company's Hazeline and Lux

products in various cities in China, announced on May 24, was a normal market move and that consumers can choose to purchase the products if they wish, in keeping with the

principles of a free market. The official went on to say that earlier meeting between representatives of the NDRC and various business groups did not involve the government

agency telling companies not to raise prices, but were simply a chance for the government to better understand the circumstances of the companies and as long as companies do not violate the Price Law, the government would not intervene. The price increases followed the NDRC's announcement on May 6 that it intended to fine Unilever 2 million yuan for telling the media about a plan to raise prices.
