    NDRC Urges Local Authorities to Punish Carrefour for "Cheating Customers"

    China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the peak central-government body responsible for economic planning, has announced that in response to media reports, it's investigated allegations of price manipulation at various branches of the multinational supermarket chain Carrefour. CNR reports that the NDRC has uncovered various kinds of price gouging at cetain Carrefour branches in various cities across China. The NDRC has already instructed local pricing authorities to investigate and prosecute the cases according to the law. Authorities can confiscate illegal gains and impose a fine of five times the amount that was illeagally earned. If there are no illegal gains or it's hard to calculate how much has been illeaglly made, than a maximum fine of 500,000 yuan can be imposed.
